Does Moving the Piano Affect Its Sound?

It may surprise you but moving a piano doesn’t directly impact its sound.

Then why it sounds different in a new location?

We can best understand it by looking at the two primary items that make the piano up – wood and steel. While temperature and humidity directly affects wood, only temperature affects steel. Therefore, when you move piano, these two primary elements change, which is why you frequently need to regulate and tune it.

Another reason your piano may sound different when relocated is the room size and its acoustics. Carpet has the capacity to absorb sound but hardwood reflects it. In large rooms, the sound seems lost; however, small spaces reinforce it, hence seeming louder.
